Here are some frequently asked questions about Drummond Geometry and our professional trading course:

How long will it take me to finish the various courses?

The “Quick-Start” course called “Drummond Geometry in One Lesson” takes about two-and-a-half hours to view, but the material is quite condensed and we think that most traders will want to view it several times, in order to make good notes and solidify their understanding of the material. The intermediate level course consists of ten hours of webinars, delivered in one-hour segments, and again, we think that many will want to view them more than once. The full set of the Classic Drummond Geometry “Thirty Lessons” is a different kettle of fish. This is a substantal course and students commonly take three or four months to complete the course. A few have done it in six weeks, but most take considerably longer. It becomes a valued reference work for most of our students and they consult it again and again many times over the course of their trading career.

How long will it take for me to be able to trade this methodology?

This is hard to answer definitively because traders come to us with many different backgrounds. We suppose that starting from scratch a few months is a reasonable answer. On the other hand an experienced trader will likely find immediate improvements to his or her bottom line. There are tradable ideas in each course and in each session, but if you are a new trader it will take some time to assimilate the material and incorporate it into your own trading style.

Do I have to finish the whole series of courses before I can trade this methodology?

No. Each course and each of the full lessons include valuable trading ideas and you should be able to make good use of the information immediately. That said, we should add that in the full course, sections 1-15 provide the roadmap and sections 16-30 focus more on actual driving.

Naturally, things get better the more you know, and you will likely be more successful after twenty Lessons than after studying only five of them. But you do not have to complete the full course before you can start taking advantage of the insights and the methodology.

The methodology seems complex. Will I be able to understand this and trade it?

P&L or Drummond Geometry may seem complex at first because there are some unfamiliar terms and tools to learn. However once the methodology becomes familiar to you, it will be seen as a simple and straightforward set of tools for trading. It is very logical, objective, and consistent. The Quick-Start Course is a great help in getting oriented to this new landscape.

What kind of results can I expect trading Drummond Geometry?

Results differ with different traders, as might be expected. Some have done and are continuing to do very well. Some are still learning. And some are not able to master the psychological and money-management aspects of trading, and hence are not doing particularly well, and remain as break-even traders. However, the Drummond Geometry tools do permit extraordinary financial returns far beyond what is conventionally regarded as attainable. We give you these remarkable tools and will teach you to the best of our ability but the results you attain with them will be up to you.

Is there a track record?

Yes we have included some track-record research on this site. Drummond has always been research-oriented when developing trading methods. There are also many research reports and track records presented in the book “Charles Drummond on Advanced P&L.” We think you will find them quite impressive. However the methodology lends itself to many different trading styles and for that reason we do not hold out a single track record as a model for other traders to emulate. We prefer that traders conduct their own research with P&L (and we teach how to do that),because research that is carried out personally is always the most credible.

Does Drummond Geometry tell me when to buy and sell? Does it contain clear signals?

The course will give you clear indications of when to buy and sell. We stress that there are many ways to trade this methodology and the user will want to tailor the approach to fit his or her own trading style and risk parameters. But the tools give clear, objective signals and the course provides ample trading guidelines.

What kinds of experiences are other students having with Drummond Geometry?

Here are a few comments from recent students.

Our question to them: How has Drummond’s work effected your trading, i.e., compared to how you traded prior to using these concepts?

“One can now accurately anticipate pauses, reversals, congestion entrances and exits. And even more importantly, one can often determine when the expected is not happening – well before stop losses are hit, sometimes even while the “bad” position is still profitable. So reverse and go with the opposite.”

“Most trading methods are like driving a car while looking in the rear view mirror. Conversely, P&L is one that actually looks forward to the potential turns up ahead. Then it is simply a matter of seeing whether the car starts to turn.”

“Another thought: the AWARENESS Psychology taught by Charlie and Ted is quite good, as well and is equally important to success. Think on Good Things.”

“Having a great time with the course…my ability to anticipate probable price movement improves daily. Keep looking for something to criticize, but can’t find it.”

Do I have to have your software to use this methodology?

We recommend it. While it is not excessively hard to program some of the simpler tools into TradeStation’s EasyLanguage or other programming languages, it is far from simple to program the more complex tools and especially the time period overlays which permit you to visualize one timeframe on top of another. We believe that the software we have made available is a very worthwhile investment.

Do I have to purchase TradeStation?

In theory, you do not have to have a particular brand of software; the methodology works independently of the software and can be hand-charted or calculated separately from any charting package. As a practical matter, however, we highly recommend TradeStation together with the Drummond Geometry indicator software. It makes life much, much easier.

Are your methods suitable for intraday trading? How about longer term trading?

Yes, both the software and the overall Drummond Geometry methodology work very well for short-term intraday trading, and work equally well for weekly swing-trading and for monthly, quarterly or multi-year trades.

Is there some way for me to get a feeling for Drummond Geometry without purchasing the complete first module of the full “30-Lesson” course?

There are several steps you can take. First, spend time reviewing the no-cost material on this website. There is quite a lot of information here, including many downloadable articles, book chapters, and white papers. Second, we highly recommend the low-cost “Quick-Start Course, which contains a complete overview and some initial trade plans. Third, you can review the first Lesson, which is available on the website in full without charge. And finally, you could purchase the book “How to Make Money in the Futures Market…and Lots of It,” which is Drummond’s first book, written in 1978. While there is a great deal more to the P&L methodology that has been developed in the intervening 30 years, the “How To…” book does include some introductory material on P&L. Part of cost of this book may be applied towards the cost of the thirty Lessons, as it is normally included with that course.

I am a beginning trader and do not have an extensive background in the markets. Will Drummond Geometry give me a suitable trading style for my level of experience?

Traders come to Drummond’s work from many different backgrounds. Some have had many years of experience and came upon Drummond only after they have been disappointed elsewhere. Others have virtually no trading experience and start from scratch with Drummond geometry. The methodology is effective for both experienced and novice traders. The course does not assume that the student has years of experience before studying this material, and one can learn how to trade from the course with very little additional information from other sources. Obviously the learning curve will be a bit longer for those who have never traded before. We recommend the “Quick-Start” Course as your first step.
